Terms of Service

1. Who these Terms apply to

These Terms apply to everyone who uses the Site. Some sections apply only to particular users:

• Sections 4 and 5 apply to readers who join the Readers' Circle.
• Sections 7, 8, 9 and 10 apply to authors who submit a title.
• All other sections apply to everyone.

Where a section applies to one group only, it says so.

2. The Service

PageTurnerz is a reader-first discovery platform for independent fiction. Our service:

• Matches readers with indie titles based on the preferences each reader declares (genre, subgenre, tropes, tone).
• Delivers matched books to readers free of charge.
• Invites readers to leave an honest review, on PageTurnerz and, if they choose, on retail and community sites.
• Provides a community platform for indie book discovery.

Reviews are always invited and never required. Receiving a book is not conditional on leaving a review, and no reader is under any obligation to review a title they have received.

We do not guarantee that any title will be matched with any particular number of readers, or that any reviews will result.

3. Registration and eligibility

You may need to register to use parts of the Site. You agree to keep your password confidential and are responsible for activity under your account. We may remove or change a username we reasonably consider inappropriate.

By registering you confirm that:

• The information you give us is true, accurate, current and complete, and that you will keep it up to date.
• You have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms.
• You are not a minor in the jurisdiction where you live.

4. The Readers' Circle (readers)

The Readers' Circle is free to join. Members are matched with indie titles that fit the preferences they have declared and receive those books at no cost.

Books supplied through the Readers' Circle are for your personal reading only. You agree that you will not:

• Copy, redistribute, resell, lend or share any file you receive.
• Share, forward or publish any download link issued to you.
• Upload any file you receive to any file-sharing service, library, archive or other platform.

These restrictions reflect the terms on which authors allow us to deliver their work to you. Breaching them may end your membership and may expose you to a claim by the author.

5. Reviews (readers)

Reviews must be your own honest opinion. We do not require positive reviews, set minimum star ratings, or promise any outcome to authors. We may remove reviews that are abusive, defamatory, plagiarized, or that breach the rights of others.

Reviews you post on PageTurnerz may remain on the Site after your membership ends, and after a title is withdrawn by its author.

Author mailing-list opt-in. After you submit a review, you may be offered the option to join that specific author's reader mailing list. This is entirely optional and only happens if you actively click "Yes, keep me updated" — the default is not opted in. If you opt in, your email address is shared with that specific book's author only, so they can contact you. This is per book and per author, never a blanket setting, and you can unsubscribe from any author's list at any time. See our Privacy Policy for more detail.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Site to post unlawful content, to harass others, to attempt to gain unauthorized access, or to interfere with the normal operation of the service.

7. Author participation and eligibility (authors)

Submitting a title does not guarantee acceptance, matching, reviews, or any other outcome.

By submitting a title you confirm that:

• You own or control all rights necessary to grant the license in section 8, and that granting it does not breach any agreement you have with any other party.
• The work does not infringe the intellectual property, privacy or other rights of any third party, and is not defamatory or unlawful.
• The work is not enrolled in Amazon KDP Select, Kindle Unlimited, or any other program that requires digital exclusivity, and will not be enrolled in one while it is listed with us. If that changes, you will tell us promptly and we will remove the title.
• The content information you provide — including audience, sexual content, violence, strong language and content notes — is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

You may list up to three titles unless we agree otherwise with you in writing.

8. The license you grant us (authors)

8.1 What you grant. You grant Paul Brooks (trading as Page1Publishing) a limited, non-exclusive, revocable, royalty-free, worldwide license, for the sole purpose of operating the matching service, to:

• Store your file on our systems and those of our hosting providers.
• Deliver a complete copy of your file to readers who have been matched with your title through the Readers' Circle.
• Display your cover art, title, author name, description, metadata and short excerpts on the Site and in our own promotion of the platform.

8.2 No exclusivity. This license is non-exclusive. You keep every other right in your work. Nothing in these Terms restricts your freedom to publish, sell, price, promote or distribute the work anywhere else, at the same time, on any terms you choose. The only condition is the one set out in section 7 concerning digital-exclusivity programs, which arises from those programs' own rules rather than ours.

8.3 What you do not grant. For the avoidance of doubt, this license does not include, and we will not exercise, any right to:

• Sublicense your work to anyone.
• Distribute, transmit or make your file available to anyone other than readers matched with your title, except to our hosting and infrastructure providers acting on our instructions and under equivalent restrictions.
• Sell, rent, syndicate or otherwise commercialize your file.
• Produce or authorize audio, translation, print, film, television, stage, merchandising, adaptation or other derivative versions of your work.
• Use your work, or permit any third party to use it, to train, fine-tune or evaluate artificial intelligence or machine-learning models.

8.4 Duration and withdrawal. The license lasts only while your title is listed with us. You may withdraw a title at any time by telling us in writing. We will remove it and revoke outstanding download access within five working days. Copies already delivered to matched readers cannot be recalled, and those readers remain bound by section 4.

8.5 After withdrawal. Removing a title does not remove reviews already posted for it, which may remain on the Site.

9. How we handle your file (authors)

Files are held in private storage and are served to matched readers through links that expire. Access is checked against an active match at the point of download, downloads are capped per match, and each download is logged.

These controls are designed to prevent links from circulating and to limit access to matched readers. They cannot prevent a reader who has legitimately received a file from copying it afterwards. No platform can honestly promise otherwise, and the exposure is comparable to any advance review copy. Section 4 binds readers not to do this, but we do not warrant that every reader will comply.

10. Fees (authors)

Founding authors participate free of charge for the lifetime of their account, covering up to three titles. Founding author status does not convert to a paid plan and will not be charged for retroactively.

We may introduce a fee for new author accounts in future. Any such fee will be published on the Site before it takes effect, will apply only to accounts created after it takes effect, and will never be applied retroactively to authors who joined before it.

We do not take any commission on sales of your work.

11. Intellectual property

Editorial content on PageTurnerz — including features, spotlights and original writing — is the property of Paul Brooks (trading as Page1Publishing) or its contributors. Author and book content remains the intellectual property of the respective authors and rights holders, subject only to the license in section 8.

12. Site management

We may, but are not obliged to: monitor the Site for breaches of these Terms; take appropriate action against anyone who breaches them or the law; refuse, restrict or remove any contribution; and otherwise manage the Site to protect our rights and its proper functioning. Where we restrict or remove your access or content, we will act reasonably and, where practicable, tell you why.

13. Term and termination

These Terms apply while you use the Site.

You may close your account at any time. Authors may withdraw titles at any time under section 8.4.

We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, if we reasonably suspect unlawful or fraudulent use, or if we discontinue the service. Except where a breach makes it inappropriate, we will give you reasonable notice.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give reasonable notice before it takes effect — by email where we hold your address, or by prominent notice on the Site. Changes do not apply retroactively, and no change will remove the founding-author fee position set out in section 10 for accounts already holding it.

If you do not accept a change, you may close your account, and authors may withdraw their titles, before it takes effect.

15. Disclaimers

The Site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will produce any particular result for authors or readers. This does not affect any rights you have that cannot be excluded by law.

16. Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

If you are a consumer, we are liable for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not liable for loss that is not foreseeable. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by these Terms.

If you use the Site in the course of a business — which includes authors listing titles — we are not liable for loss of profits, sales, business, revenue, goodwill or reputation, loss of anticipated savings, loss or corruption of data, or any indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the greater of the fees you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or £100.

17. Indemnity (authors)

If a third party brings a claim against us because a title you submitted infringes their rights, is unlawful or defamatory, or because you were not entitled to grant the license in section 8, you agree to cover the losses, damages and reasonable costs we incur as a result. We will tell you promptly about any such claim, will not settle it without consulting you, and will give you reasonable assistance in dealing with it.

18. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your local law, and may bring proceedings in your home courts.
